The decision came after a hearing on a petition filed by Wangchuk’s wife, Geetanjali Angmo, who had approached the High Court seeking permission for his treatment at Medanta Hospital. Earlier, a single bench had rejected the request, following which Angmo moved before a larger bench.
Wangchuk was initially admitted to Safdarjung Hospital by the Delhi Police after his health condition deteriorated during the ongoing hunger strike. Following the High Court’s approval, he will now be able to receive treatment at the private medical facility.
During the hearing, the Central Government informed the court that it had no objection to shifting Wangchuk to Medanta Hospital. However, the government requested that he remain under continuous medical supervision and should not be discharged without the advice of doctors.
The High Court directed that Wangchuk be transferred from Safdarjung Hospital along with all his medical records. The court also stated that a formal order regarding the transfer would be issued.
Meanwhile, the movement by Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) continues at Jantar Mantar. Protesters returned to the protest site and reiterated their demand for the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke also participated in the demonstration and stated that the protest would continue until the demands are fulfilled.
The High Court’s decision provides significant medical relief to Wangchuk amid his prolonged hunger strike, while the wider protest movement continues to press its demands.
